13-hour trip on a large, orange bus shows dedication

Bruce Williamson and Brad Moser picked a good season to build the ultimate Oklahoma State fan bus, at least until the Cowboys fell to Georgia Tech on Saturday.

Parked in the Alamodome's east lot Saturday afternoon, the orange-black-and-white monstrosity was the ultimate in fan comfort.

It was outfitted with a futon, two recliners and two dining tables. The floor was carpeted with new Astroturf, since as Williamson explained, they couldn't scrounge any when the old stuff was ripped out of the Cowboys' football stadium.

They cut off the back so they could haul a barbecue grill (the only thing they brought that wasn't orange and black), canopies, and a scooter. They almost needed the scooter on the way down, as they blew out a radiator hose near Ardmore -- a passing motorist helped instead.

The GoPokesGo.com special (the Web site supposedly will be up and running today, Williamson said) pulled into town at 3 a.m., and it was the first bus in the lot Saturday morning.

They bought the 1984 model bus for $700 from a school district in Oklahoma City, then spent $2,000 on orange, black and white renovations -- including the painting of their motto, "Tailgate like Champions," on the inside.

Just in case, they painted "God Bless Boone Pickens," on the outside, hoping to attract the interest of one of the richest OSU boosters around.

You see, Boone Pickens probably has tickets to the game. Williamson, Moser and the rest of the gang rode down just to support the team. They didn't have a way into Saturday's game.

Perhaps it was fortunate that the Cowboys lost -- the bus was going to be evicted from the Alamodome parking lot after the game anyway.

"We're here to support the team, no matter what," Williamson said. "In any case, we're having a good time."
